Sensei George Katselis is a personal student of sensei Agathi Sarandi, personal student of kyoshi Polichronopoulos. Holder of 4 dan in Kobayashi Shorin Ryu Karate do and 4 dan in Matayoshi Kobudo. With more than 15 years experience in martial arts he is the head instructor of the Patras dojo and Suibukan club of the University of Patras. Training continuously taking part regularly in seminars of kyoshi Polichronopoulos as well as with master Yamashita.
Born in Arta in 1967 and his involvement with the martial arts began in 1993, during his postgraduate studies in the Biology Department of the University of Patras. There he participated in the first club that was established by sensei Agathi Sarandi and soon discovered the interesting combination of the mechanics of body movement with the simultaneous use of the will and mind as a major component of the educational surroundings.
The training continued in the dojo of Patra, which after several hospitalities, found it’s own home at 102 Panepistimiou street, Kato Sychena (northern suburb of Patra), while he got directly involved in the training as an assistant instructor from 1995-1996 to the dojo and the University club.
In September of 1998 after for filing his military obligations, sensei George Katselis returned to active participation in the dojo at the 1 dan level undertaking the task of instructor for the dojo of Patra. In a short time the dojo relocated to a space in the “Tofalos” stadium as a guest, where it remains till today.
At the end of 1998, after the recommendation of sensei Agathi Sarandi and with the support of kyoshi he took charge as head instructor of the dojo of Patras and the University of Patras club.
Through the teaching of sensei Katselis under the inspired mentorship of kyoshi Polychronopoulos dozens of students were acquainted with the martial arts through standards and virtues and several of them attained the black belt level.
Sensei George Katselis apart from martial arts is a graduate of the Biology Department of the University of Patras and holds a PhD in fish biology. He has worked freelancing for several years with Companies and Research Institutes in the research programs that related with Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Married to Katerina Koukou (1 Kyu Shorin ryu karate and 2 kyu in Matayoshi kobudo). Katerina is a graduate of the Biology Department of the University of Patras with a Master’s Degree and a PhD in Genetics and Evolutionary Biology.
George and Katerina are parents to four children. The involvement with martial arts for the whole family is part of their way of life.
